Nutshell: Tom Brady Was Definitely Talking About the Dolphins

Tom Brady made headlines with his comments on HBO's "The Shop"

Tom Brady was a free agent for the first time in his career last offseason. He ended up signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but not before several other teams inquired about his services. One team, however, lost interest in the then-42-year-old QB at some point, which royally pissed Brady off.

He recently sounded off about it on HBO's "The Shop", saying "They weren’t interested at the very end. I was thinking, ‘You’re sticking with that motherfucker?'" This has caused speculation as to which team/QB Brady was referring to.

It had to have been my Miami Dolphins and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Boot Fits

Tom Brady allegedly wanted to stay in the AFC East, perhaps for a chance to stick it to his old team in the New England Patriots. So. Assuming that's true, and by all accounts of Brady's legendary competitiveness, it probably is, we have three options.

Jets

We'll say option #1 is the Jets. Now, Brady wasn't going to a team that wasn't ready to win. While the Jets were a respectable 7-9 the year prior, the organization was in a state of flux with a shaky front office and a lot of question marks throughout their roster. Plus, they were still in the process of trying to make something of Sam Darnold. Would Brady want to throw himself into that fire? Unlikely.

Bills

The Bills will be option #2. The Bills were coming off a playoff berth, in part because of their blossoming QB, Josh Allen. No way it was the Bills. I suppose him going to Buffalo would have been a bit like Peyton Manning replacing Tim Tebow in Denver, but Buffalo's success seemed a bit more sustainable. It couldn't have been the Bills.

Dolphins

Finally, we have the 'Phins at option #3. The 2019 Dolphins had arguably the worst start to an NFL season of all time, going 0-7 and losing by an average margin of 23 points. Then things turned around. They went 5-4 the rest of the way, culminating with a win on the road in Foxborough. The Dolphins roster showed it had promise. The Dolphins front office also headed into the offseason with a truckload of cap space to work with. The Dolphins also employed Brian Flores as their head coach, a man Tom Brady is very familiar with after their time together in New England. The Dolphins also had an aging journeyman at QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick.

It's too obvious. Miami was a perfect fit for a Tom Brady revenge tour. Ryan Fitzpatrick is "that motherfucker." The Dolphins lost interest in Brady, who would hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the seventh time last season.

So it goes.
