Nutshell Review: Twisters

PG Score: 7.5/10

Twisters was released in theaters on 7/19/24

No, that wasn’t Brock Lesnar F5ing the competition, that was Twisters breaking big at the box office with a Texas Tornado discus punch for the win.

Excellent Cast

A popcorn-fueled summer blockbuster is the best way to describe such a fun film. There’s nothing great about Twisters, but it is the type of film that makes you want to go to the theaters. Glenn Powell (Anyone But You) continues to make his meteoric rise in Hollywood by delivering another solid performance. He is paired with Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) who is the true star of the film. It’s hard not to fall in love with her. Polar opposites in personality, but with a love of dangerous weather, these two have great chemistry and have you rooting for both. The rest of the cast isn’t too shabby either with some very familiar faces.

Genuine Thrills

Action. The story has a lot of it and plenty of the force of nature that a tornado is. It's a sight to see on the big screen. The total destruction makes the story of a group of storm chasers battling the elements trying to help those affected all the more meaningful. Usually, when man battles nature, nature always wins, but the science of trying to battle back against such destruction is pretty cool to see.

Nothing in the film looked too hokey or fake; you could feel the terror and danger of those in the middle of the storm. Not gonna lie, I had to watch from behind my fingers a few times when mortal peril was present for our cast of characters.

A Classic Blockbuster

A big budget, summer blockbuster of old, Twisters is a must-see on the big screen. While it might not be Barbieheimer of a year ago, this is a fun film to check out with some friends.
