Nutshell Review: The Brutalist

Josh Aboody

PG Score: 8.5/10

It’s a robust drama to its very core and one that demands the viewer’s undivided attention.

The Brutalist was released in theaters on 12/20/24

8.5/10 for The Brutalist. Part 1 (the first half) is a 9/10 for me. Incredible film led by an astounding performance from Adrien Brody. It’s a beast of a picture and at the risk of sounding cliche, it’s really an experience. It’s designed for the big screen and seeing it in IMAX really paid off. The 3.5 hour runtime flies by for the most part, and for much of it, I was fully entranced by the onscreen magic.

A Spectacle That Demands Your Attention

It’s a robust drama to its very core and one that demands the viewer’s undivided attention. There is subtle humor and facial expressions, for example, that are key to understanding the nature of what you are witnessing. The score is breathtaking and I found myself tapping and bobbing my head along to the booming sounds that accompany the masterpiece. I highly recommend seeing it on the big screen if possible.
