Wow. What a fantastic directorial debut for Fleur Fortune. This woman has a bright future ahead of her. The Assessment is an extremely strange film and right off the top, it’s gonna be way too weird for a lot of people. This is absolutely not a movie for everyone. The people it appeals to though, are in for a heck of a treat. This sci-fi drama is unique, unrelenting, and challenging in the best way possible. It’s uncomfortable at times and appropriately thought-provoking. I went in somewhat blind and didn’t really expect much. Both those factors paid off.
Performances
On top of all that, the acting is spectacular. Himesh Patel and Elizabeth Olsen are both great, especially the latter. However, Alicia Vikander is the true marvel here. She shines in a multidimensional turn that is arguably the best work of her career. It is a very tough role and she knocked it out of the park.
A Gem (To Some)
The Assessment is one of those flicks that I loved but probably wouldn’t watch again. You know the type. HIGHLY recommend to the select audience this gem was mined for.
